Hello everyone.  I'm in Utah and am looking at getting involved with T hunting here in my area. Right now I'm looking at my first detector.  I'm thinking about getting a Whites V3i.  Yeah I know some people say I should cut my teeth on something a little less complicated but I figure, why not get one of the best?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Greetings from Australia!

The V3i is an entry level machine with pizazz. Go for it.

Hello, hendro.   Welcome to THunting.com.   I agree with Golddigger---just remember that you'll learning that machine for a while (but that also means you can go back over sites you've hunting before and compare your results as you get to know your detector).

Thanks GoldDigger.  I have looked at the DFX, The XLT and the MXD and they all look like they are really nice MDs, but I guess if I'm going to put out $600 to $800 I don't want to wish I had used that to get a V3i.  Being an engineer I think studying the MD is almost as interesting as what I can do with it.

Thanks BitBurg.  I get down to the Phoenix, Mesa, San Tan areas of AZ a couple of times a year.  Would love to bring down the MD and do some hunting down there as well.  So if you have any recommendations it would be appreciated.

Thanks Karl,  looks like a great community.  I'm originally from Virginia and get back there from time to time to see my sister.  Looks like I'll be backing my MD for some fun back there too.

From one engineer to another, the V3i is a turn-on-and-go machine that will start you out with a few built in programs which you can then either modify or start to make your own. It's really the best detector for someone like yourself. It has 3 frequencies rather than one making it very useful for punching through trash into the deeper good stuff.

It's cold right now so there's no hurry but do you really want to wish you had it when you get the February thaw this year?

I think you are right GoldDigger, when the weather starts thawing out....I'm going to want to get out with it to see what it can do.

Hey HomeFire.  Use to have an aunt in Albequeque, but she's long gone.  My brother married into a family from NM and they go down to Luna every year.  He says they refer to themselves as Luna-tics.  By the way they let off fireworks, he says it fits. Ha!
