I'd love to learn how to build a metal detector-but haven't had electronics training---are there any kits a person can buy like the mags used to advertise in past? I'd like to be able to use scrap parts from radios or computer circuit boards so it wouldn't cost so much or would that be advisable? I know a fellow who builds a good PI unit and I've kind of sat in on some of his working sessions and helped him pour the epoxy in coils and build headphones-but I really didn't get into any of the technical stuff---I think a PI unit may be simplest form of detector to build and get in working order--but not totally sure--seems like I've read that, though???

Hi, conwaysoccerguy, You could suere enough build a detector if you wanted too with your education. The fellow I used to help on building detectors was also taking courses in electronic engineering-his was a correspondence course by Cleveland School Of Electronics, I think. He built pulse and TR water hunting machines.
