This is the warmest welcome I have ever recieved from a message board. You all seem so friendly. Thanks much to outsider, stringfrenzy,dr.dtector, ocalasix and goldfinger. I did not expect such a good welcome.
I live in Lakeland. Been here for 4 yrs now and have only had time for a couple of beach runs. The heat is so hard to deal with in the summers and then it gets cold.
I have never been a part of an organized group but I am thinking of joining the Largo based group. I believe I could learn a great deal from some old timers.
I had a cheap machine long ago but just dug so much junk that I lost interest. This new machine makes me feel like a pro at times. I am getting to the point that I can even tell what era a penny was made before I dig it. I was in Ohio before here and found some 1890's pennies and other silver coins. My best one now is a walking liberty half dollar in excelent condition./ I hope we do get to meet some time.
Thanks again for the welcome. Roger
P.S. I am a master certified RV tech so if you have any troubles with your coach feel free to ask.

Hello Roger!

A warm welcome from me, too!

The XLT still has one of the ID abilities that one can buy for money! The longer you use it the better you will get at interpreting its readings.

I'm sure joining a group would be a great possibility to pick up some tricks and hints from some oldtimers.

I hope that you will run accross some excellent finds on the beaches. Especially when the season is a bit off and the are no longer so many crowds of people at the beach, it's an excellent detecting time. Good luck!

Best wishes,

Christian

Hi Roger,

I am new to this forum, live in New Jersey and also have an XLT.  For the most part, it has been good to me though it is sometimes hard getting it to ground balance especially on the beach.  One thing I did learn is even if you can't get it to balance you will still be able to find stuff though the ID or depth may be off.  I will tell you it is pretty durable as I have beat the heck out of it and it still is ticking.

BY the way, dig the junk especially at the beach.  Sometimes that "may be a pull tab, may be a ring" signal will, in fact, be a ring.  Also, that junk may be masking the signal or a more valuable target.  Plus, by removing junk from the ground you are doing your part to leave the area you hunted in in better shape than when you got there.

Happy Hunting!
