I am a new member here living in Nor Cal in the Sac area. I am new to treasure hunting. Been gold panning some since I was little with my uncle. A few weeks ago my friends and i went to Coloma but not to successful we did find a guy that really helped us learn how to do it right I was about half right from trying to remember what I learned from Dad and uncle long ago.

Actually going panning later today at river near my home they use to dredge here and been told since there was gold here before there should still be gold so will see. I can actually use a sluice they arent allowed in Coloma.

I also want to try using a metal detector and just see if I can find stuff. Doubt I can find as neat of stuff as others out their since I am in Cali no old Civil War stuff, or revoultionary war stuff, and no antiquities like roman coins or other old European stuff for me. But maybe being in gold country I could find old minner stuff or go to the beach and find some stuff there.

Any recomendations on how or where to look or any advice for a newbie would be appreciated.

Yeah I guess so. I also didnt think of native american things but probably not goign to find any cannonballs. Maybe its just the grass is always greener kind of thing I still think somewhere like back East or Europe would offer more. Thanks for the encouragment.

You're welcome, but if you really want some inspiration go to YouTube and do a search either on California metal detecting or California gold rush.  Smiley........We won't find the really old Roman, Greek, or Celtic coins (unless by a fluke) but we will find interesting items when we hunt.
