Hi GoldDigger. My son stays in Perth. If I go visit him again ... is it worthwhile to take my MD with?

Absolutely! The beaches are gorgeous and on Monday mornings, they are clear and open for you to gather the weekend missing items. Some of the locals go out on Sunday evening with headband lights but I prefer to go in the mornings. Don't try to wiggle between the beach goers. That's sort of frowned on by people here. The kid's tot lots are also good producers. Again, don't bother the kiddies. If they're there in the wee hours of the morning, just find another.

Sounds good. Would not mind to spend time on Rottnest Island beaches ... if it is allowed.

What are Aussie regulations on gold prospecting like nowadays?

I recall pictures that my son sent on an old goldmine area where miners found a pretty big chunck of gold back in the days.

I'm not sure about Rottnest but I can find out. I hate to ask anyone in officaldom because someone might use the question as grounds to pass a law against it. The gold hunting in the area is limited to Crown Land, pastoral land or private leases with permission. You are within a days drive here in Perth and you can get some advice, maps and rent a detector at the Prospectors' Patch in Midland. You also need a fossicking permit. That costs $25AU and is a lifetime permit. You can apply on-line for that.

Hi Xavier

I'm in Pretoria.

Where are you based?

Levett
Haha .. Aussie laws!

But for gold hunting it still sounds more relaxed than in SA where there is a moratorium on prospecting licences and the government now considers to nationalize all mines

Thank you for the info. Will keep in touch

People are more relaxed out my way and it is visible when you go out. How are you getting on with your PI?

Electronics are basically sorted out. Next phase is to do testing on a few coil concepts I have.

What is a concern at this stage is to find a site where we can do field testing on alluvial gold ... Department of Mineral and Energy has a moratorium on prospecting licenses so we bit stuck with that.

How good is your knowledge on the legalities in SA of gold hunting without a mining or prospecting license?
