Just got a metal detector(discovery 1100, WalMart special) for Christmas. I was wondering what I should expect with this machine. Thanks for any input or previous experience!

Welcome to Our World from New Mexico!

That one will get more then just started.

Don't expect 1/2 grain gold nuggets but it will fill your pockets with ToT lot coins.

Somewhere on this site I ran across a link that taught how to make the horseshoe dig/plug.  I thought that was great advice and I am going to use that from now on.  We should all try to make our dig sites a better place and I know that is what we all preach.   Amen

Make sure u go thru the boards and read up on laws etc pertaining to your area, and allways ask permission before digging on Pvt Property.  Good Luck and Happy Hunting.

Hey, rclubbs-----welcome.   Most of the good tips, especially for beginners, are going to work for you too.  Don't worry so much about model specific tips---they'll come as you apply the other tips you read along with the stuff you read in your manual.   Get out there and practice....(and don't ever let yourself get discouraged----every nail and every pulltab can be one more lesson learned that leads to the big prize).
