Hi all, as you may have guessed I'm new to the forum. I actually signd up bout a month or so ago but never posted an intro so here goes. I live in Fl and I've only been detecting a little over a year. I don't get out as much as I'd like to but I do get out some. I have a BH QD II that my wife gave me for x-mas '07. I'm still learning it though. I have a hard time figuring out how to pinpoint with it but I'll get it eventually. I was bouncing around the site today when I realized that I never introduced myself, and I liked what I've read, so I here I am. I'm looking forward to posting more here on THunting.

Hello Tony,

welcome to our site! I look forward to reading your postings and seeing your finds.

If you have a hard time pin pointing small objects you may consider using a small pin pointing probe. A simple elctric wire finder from a hardwarestore might allready do the job.

Here is an article on building your own probe:

Hello Tony66 and Welcome to the Great Thunting.com !!!! Glad you joined and I am looking forward to hearing about how good your Bounty Hunter Quick Draw II Works !! Bounty Hunter usually sticks a cd video in the box , if not stick a Penny , nickel,  dime and a quarter plus a big rusty nail and a big wad of tin-foil all spread out on a on a 5 or 6 foot long piece of cardboard . Then you if your discrimination and notch control is set correctly you should hear only a tone or beep on the coins and not the garbage . Then when your outside and hit a target , switch to all metal mode for Pin-pointing and you should do pretty good !!!

Best Regards...........................Eugene52

Hi Tony! Welcome aboard. Another way you could practice pinpointing is to bury a few coins and use golf tees to mark their locations.

Thanks everyone for the warm reception. I'm not really mechanically inclined but I might try that home made probe one time just to see if I can actually do it, thanks Christian.

Eugene 52, Ive heard that before but there wasn't any CD that came with the unit, I've gone to the BH web site and emailed rhem at least 2 times inquiring about it but I havent had any responses.

Sue, I've done the coin garden thing and it works. I really believe it's an OE (Operator Error) problem. I've found BB's in my mother's yard that I must have dropped shooting a BB gun as a teen over 20 (but less than 30) yrs ago at 6-8 inches deep. I found 3 of them and some days I cant pinpoint a pull tab 2" below the surface. I find things but some days I'm dead on and others I miss by a mile. I know pull tabs are a pain but when I dig one that's right where I figure it should be, I feel pretty good. I have an HF Pinpointer that works just fine but it doesnt help if I'm no where near close to the treasure.

I have times when I'm off, too. I taught myself to pinpoint better by only taking a knife along to an old park. Stab where I thought X was. Nice feeling when I'd hit something and it would be my target - even if it was a pulltab, I was pleased.
