I know about gold's malleablity, if you seriously think that is beaten, I have a bridge to sell you!  Grin Grin

Look at it again, I doubt if that was ever pounded and what you are saying applies to sheet gold, beaten between 2 pieces of leather. Lost wax, is easy, saves labour, and does not need special molds for forming.

Try it, you will like it.  Shocked

Lost wax will work for ANY metal.  Great

OK, I blew up the picture, and could see what can only be mold marks, in the gem sockets; if it were beaten, it would be very smooth. It was certainly cast, and lost-wax is a most likely candidate.  Wise

g.

Mock me if you wish but it was poured into a mold and pounded. End of story, mate.

Brian, I resisted mocking you regarding lost wax used by Romans. Watch yourself. I may have to mock you later.

The item was cast in a block mold and the squares were pressed in while the gold was still quite warm. The cooler it gets, the harder it must be pressed. Some may even POUND them a bit.

That is your opinion.

There can be 2 at the mocking - it cuts both ways.

See??? That's better. An opinion cannot be mocked as easily as someone attempting to ridicule another.

On the BBC, there are two series which I find absolutely hilarious. Grumpy Old Women and Grumpy Old Men. If you can get them there, try and catch at least one episode. See if you can find yourself.
