Hay folks. I am an avid outdoorsman. I was introduced to gold prospecting many years ago and only recently caught the fever. I am gathering info, maps, tool, techniques, for next years season. If I was you, I would start in the Prospectors Talk board and move on to the the MAPs board.

I ordered a map of the area through Big Ten maps. It shows over 3000 known claims so I will try to avoid these. I don't have a starting place pin pointed yet. I know the general area I want to start though.

I realize that. It is just a starting place. I will probably need to check with the BLM and do some footing around to be sure of a staked claim or open area. Any suggestions would help too. There are lots of mining claims that let you prospect for a small fee ($20-$30). Might be a good place to start.
