Hey guys new to the whole prospecting thing and hoping I can get some good information here.  I want to try and get a decent amount of gold out of the ground this summer, so with that goal, I need the proper equipment.  Been looking at metal detectors a lot but just not sure exactly how to find one that is best for gold.  Can anyone give any insight on what sorta detectors are best for this?  Also what other tools are really good to have besides a panning set.  Let me know guys, thanks a lot.  Also possibly looking for someone to prospect with, makes things a little easier, if your around my area feel free to PM me.

Aaron

Welcome from Arizona.

So, what do you consider a decent amount of gold?  I ask, because it isn't as easy as some folks seem to think.  A lot of beginners never find any  color in their pan although the majority who stick with it will find at least a few flakes unless they're either extremely unlucky or looking in all the wrong places.  And those who actually find enough to turn a profit, especially in the first season......well it does happen, but.......

First things first find a river where you know that you will find gold and to do that you'll have to talk to the older folks of the town. They are a walking encyclopedia

If you are looking for nuggets on hot ground you can’t by pass a minelab. But the latest and greatest will set you back a few ounces of gold.
If the gold can be recovered by panning then the more dirt you are processing the better results you will have. Look for a trommel or a sluice.

Hey guys thanks for the replies, as for a decent amount of gold, to me this means a few flakes enough to stake a claim on it.  Also looking for some info as to where I can find maps of abandoned claims in Ontario?  and if anyone is interested in teaming up to go out places to see what we can find PM me or reply if you are.  Also for a starter detector as I will upgrade to something a lot better,  but what are some others that are not as pricey as minelab?

P.S.  Thanks for all the welcomes, very friend forum!

Hummm you could go for the AT gold or the Gold Bug I have never used them but I've heard lots of good about them, you should do a bit of research and get the one that will be the best for what you can afford.

Great, thanks for the reply.  Just trying to find one thats not overly expensive, and that will be good for detecting gold.

Welcome from NM.    Gold?   You have Gold.    Look into our Prospectors Talk section and you will find a pile of info on your area.Ea

Even a Old Time BFO can find Gold.   I've done it.

No Silver Platters here.

Ya need to work like the rest of us.

On hands and Knees I do.

Sorry if I sound harsh but that is the way it is.

Come down here to NM and I will put on the gold I found but it is still Work.
