No problem just ask if u need something ,

or use the search feature in the top right hand corner
that will probably be your biggest help.

Good Luck and Happy Hunting

Hello, lestradadamus.  Welcome to THunting.com.   Plan on spending a lot of time with old books and newspapers and maps (both old and new).....what you're really looking for is places where people gathered and exchanged (and lost) money.   Places like where was the fairground at various times during the history of the community?  Was horse racing popular in the area, and if so, where were the most popular places to race?  Where did the local militia meet to muster and train?   Where were the tent revivals and riverside baptisms held?  etc, etc.  All of these places shift over time as the original sites get built up, so you can wind up with multiple areas to search depending upon the history of the community.  Sometimes you can directly locate the places on modern maps.....many times, though, it is easier to find the place if you look at a map from the same general time period.....then you can use features in common with the modern map to locate the area on your current map.

Good luck

BA

BA,
Thanks for the ideas/input.   I plan on spending some time (in the very near future) at the local library researching.   Of course, the internet is a great resource.   I live in Chesapeake, VA, which became a city in 1963.  The area I live in had farms for many years prior to development.   Also, the area had a brief battle (Battle of Great Bridge) during the revolutionary war.   Norfolk, VA, (nearby) also has some civil war history.   Virginia Beach, of course, has the beach and boardwalk.  So, the area offers a rich environment..........I just have to do my homework, get permission when needed and enjoy m/d!   thanks..........
