Hello All...

Just wanted to say Hello to all the forum members..The site looks awesome and I look forward to my new found hobby, whether it be searching for buried treasures or trying my hand at searching out some gold in the rivers and streams I frequent as a fisherman...Any info. on the S. Ontario region you could provide would be more than appreciated...Also, I am interested in a detector but have absolutely no idea what to look for...Cheers !!!!

Hi  Forbsie1969

Welcome to thunting.com. I'm sure that you will find a great wealth of information by just reading some of the threads but you are more than welcomed to ask any question. Before any of us will be able to help you find a suitable detector for you, you will have to tell us a bit more about what you want to find and also if you are going to use the machine in water.

All the best
Xavier

Just looking for a good overall detector that can infact be used in water or snow, as Canada has at least a few months of it yearly...Looking mostly for older coins, jewelry and hopefully some gold...Thanks again !!!!!

Welcome from Arizona.

Detector wise, given the snow/water factor give serious consideration to the Garrett AT Gold.   It is waterproof up to 10ft as well as operating in the same frequency range as other vlf machines specifically designed for gold prospecting---and you will be able to use it for your general purpose hunting also.

As for information regarding hunting for gold in Ontario, start with this thread from May 2010

.   The link to the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines is expired, but you should find the information that was at the old link here :
