Any advice for a novice that is going to the beach in Galveston TX? I am working with a Bounty Hunter Lone Star. Not looking for anything in particular, but prefer large treasure chests full of gold and jewelry. Although I would be thrilled to find something other than a pop top or bottle cap. Thanks in advance for your help!

PS- I hope I posted this in the correct forum, forgive me if I got it wrong.

Look around in the Beginner's board.    We have tons of info.

Be sure to ground bal good to start.     Your going to need to ground bal again if you move over the damp or wet sands.

Keep your discrimination as low as you can.    Good Luck.

Welcome from Sarnia Ontario. Have fun out there remember everything has value weather it be sentimental, historical, or monetary. Every find is a good find it helps you learn your machine and the hobby

Welcome from Pennsylvania, dig all the signals at the beach, you'll have to practice with the machine. If you dig up a piece of foil place it on the sand and turn up the Disc. to see where the setting eliminates it, but dont go to high or you will lose rings....Good Luck....DW

Hello Gearhead9358,
Welcome to the board!  I'm also in the Houston area and if you need someone to go hunting with just let me know and maybe we can meet up sometime.  There are a couple of other members that are in the area as well.  The more the merrier!

Thanks everyone! Well, I am now back from the beach. I am now extremely aware of how little I know about my machine and the hobby in general. Although I was at the mercy of my wife and friends schedule, I managed to squeeze in 5-6 hrs of hunting...which led to several hours of drinking and then thinking. Maybe if I could just get these things in order I might have had better luck  Undecided  The City of Galveston put my name on the ballot as a candidate for their annual "Keeping Our Beaches Beautiful" campaign for my efforts of cleaning up their trash. However, I did find 1 unopened Bud Light!
