I am new to the hobby.  I live less than an hour from the coast, and I am building a vineyard/berry farm about 15 minutes from the coast.  So, I will be doing alot of beach hunting.  My grandmother was always talking how she wanted to use a metal detector to find pieces of our past.  She never did do it, but I am going to.

I got inspired a few years ago, and bought a (good) metal detector from a small shop.  It was a bounty hunter and they got me for about $250 and it worked a total of 3 months.

Then I found an old detector at a garage sale for $10.  It is a Garrett ground hog.  I just downloaded the instructions, which are pretty daunting, but I will try it again.

This is all I have right now, so any help with essential tools or tutorials to make things go smoother would be appreciated.

I am a professional photographer in Beaumont TX.   Detecting

Amazingly, people have forgotten how to do what they said they will do.

brandong......welcome to THunting.com

Don't be too daunted by the instructions.  It's important to read them and understand them, but the best thing you can do is practice.   A lot of the stuff you learned with the Bounty Hunter will apply with the Garrett Ground Hog, too.
