Go Up Go Down

Hello everyone, My name is Bill and I am new to this forum. I am married with one daughter, now in college, and live in southwestern Indiana. I used to be an avid treasure hunter buying my first metal detector in 1972.  It was a Whites CoinmasterII and many years later I purchased a Whites Eagle.  Several years ago someone stole my Whites Eagle and I have been sitting on the sidelines ever since. Now I would like to get back into the swing of things but am unsure of what kind of metal detector to buy.  The technology, variety and choices of metal detectors out there has grown considerably and I am not sure which way to go.  Because of where I live, my most likely type of treasure hunting would still be coin and jewelry hunting.  However, my brother-inlaw has recently bought a metal detector and wants me to go to Arizona with him and hunt gold nuggets.  I'm not sure that a metal detector that I would use around home would work well for me in Arizona hunting nuggets, and I don't have the funds to purchase a detector that I would only use a few times.  I wondered if anyone in this forum would know of any place in Arizona where I could rent  metal detector good for hunting nuggets.  Any help here would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance for your replys.   Hello

Howdy, waygood.
Welcome from Arizona.   My first suggestion is the that you use the search function at the top right corner to search the Entire Forum for "Best Detector".   My second section is that you set a maximum price range that you are comfortable with and then look at both new and used detectors (from reliable sources) for the detectors that will meet the most of your needs in that price range (including used detectors puts more some of the higher end detectors into most people's price ranges).   I'd look at Garrett, Fisher, Whites, Tesoro, Minelab, and possibly Teknetics (made by the same people who make Fisher and Bounty Hunter).   Depending on your budget, you may be looking mainly at used machines when it comes to Minelab.
And keep in mind, that the skill of the operator can make a lot of difference when it comes to finding nuggets (they can be found even with "non-gold" machines under the right conditions and with the right operator.....but your odds are better with some machines than others).
