Let us see, I own a Garrett Metal Detector that I got 14 years ago in Alaska. I now live in Texas and am planning on getting back to hunting for meteorites and lost goodies.

Ah, ok - totally understand the age thing - that's cool. Good luck with the meteorites and hope to see some of them and other finds soon! Sue

Hello, alaskanrob.  Welcome to THunting.com.
Now that you've moved from the great deep freeze of the US to a truly large state, don't you agree that if they ever thawed out Alaska and got rid of all that ice, Texas could change the words of the song back to "Largest and Grandest, outshining all the rest" instead of "Boldest and Grandest, outshining all the rest" like they've been teaching school kids since the 60's?   Cheesy

BA in Arizona (and in case you haven't guessed, yeah, I'm a Texan no matter where I hang my hat)

Well here's the problem with your math. If you were to divide Alaska in 2, Texas would become the 3rd largest State. So melting all that beautiful white snow and ice would not change a single thing to that song you are talking about.  Grin
