I live in Donegal, this place has been populated over 7000 years, but I'm especially interested in looking for artifacts from around the 5th to 10th century as I know of some ancient battle grounds here locally. As yet though I have not purchased a detector as i have'nt really a clue as to what type would suit me. If your reading this and can be of any help I would appreicate it.

Hello Eagle.

       I'd suggest that you start by entering "Best Metal Detector" or "Best Detector" in the search field at the top of the page.  Then select "entire forum".   That will bring you up to speed on the latest recommendations.  You'll find links in some of the postings on the subject that will take you to websites where the various detectors have been reviewed by users.

think i may have a chance to purchase a Whites xlt e series, really looks great on screen but maybe it's too much to handle for a beginner?
Either way I've got to purchase a detector this week, I know I shouldn't rush in but if I'm not out in the field I ain't going to learn
