Hello, Alex......and welcome.
You're going to develop a real love for this hobby as you start looking for and researching those cache leads.  A lot of the work will be hard and you'll find yourself frustrated when you come across a roadblock, but you'll find your efforts will be rewarded even before you find your first cache.  Most of all, you'll find history coming to life for you and you'll look at your surroundings and every day occurrences through new eyes.

Advice? Well, start off with a nice long letter to Santa about the type of detector to bring you for Christmas. You do have one thing going for you in this hobby regarding the purchase of a detector and that is they pay for themselves over time. You can buy a cheap detector second hand and save the money you find to put towards a new machine. Believe it or not, it won't take long to have enough saved.

So, go on. Go and do the dishes for mum, mow the garden for dad and be the best son they ever had. A son who needs a nice Christmas present. Hint, hint . . .

Right from the start you live in England!  Here in the USA one might find a two hundred year old coin but you have that opportunity to find a coin two thusand years old.  You must have thought about it some,  all the old places you have to hunt.  Do some fun work before you get a machine, to read, to think, to dream!  Where are those Crown Jewels?
