Go Up Go Down

hi;
I have been collecting insulators since 1973 and am interested in the use of GPR (ground penetrating radar) rental units to try and see if these things can detect glass a few inches underground.  Does anyone have experience with this?  It would make searching for insulators on old railway grades a much easier task.

Howdy, insulators.   Welcome to THunting.com.   Those are some really nice insulators you have there.  (and insulators must be more valuable than I thought to justify using GPR to find them  Smiley )

insulators Just notice the picture. Middle shelf #2 from the right does it glow under UV light?
I have no experience with GPR but talked to a guy last year who use it to find old bottle dumps. I invited him to join at the time but he didn't. I am going to find his email and try again.

yes, lots of insulators are worth digging for under the locations of old (1850-1880) telegraph poles.  Most, however, are from the 1920's to 40's and aren't really worthy of note.  Have a look at some of the pics in this list for an idea of the range of rarity.
