Hello My Name is Mike, I'm trying to get started in the hobbie but not sure what dectector to get. I could spend between $200- $250. I live in NW Indiana, I would more than likley be going to parks, beach, old farms, searching for coins and what ever. Any Help would be Great!!

yo from chicago!!!!!!!!.........you'll get a few more responces to this for sure but the ace250 is a great starter md,light weight,not alot of bells n whistles and you can get one for under $200 buck and use the xtra cash for a good digger or a pinpointer

I just bought the Ace 250 Garrett Metal Detector * 2 Waterproof Coils * 4.5" * 6.5x9" * Headphones was that a good choice and good price $305 .

I live in Jasper County IN but I work in Newton Co Indiana.

Hey, Southwing, welcome from Arizona.   My compadres have given you some very good advice, both on the detector and how to use it.   Patience is definitely a key....that and make up your mind that you are never going to have a bad day swinging the detector.   Even if you aren't finding anything but junk, you can work on improving your technique.   That makes the day worthwhile (and has even been known to turn up a find you would have missed otherwise).
