hello, drdata.   Welcome to THunting.com.   Be sure to check our Beach and Shallow Water board and our Floridia sub-board in General Discussion by Location (down towards the bottom of the home page).

You're best research (especially when it comes to finding sites that aren't "beat to death") is going to be done in the library reading old books by locals and scanning through the papers for any article that catch your eye (then follow that article or story line through as many issues as you can)

Hi, Yes!

We have spent some time on Hutchingson Island. Not much success but, the area is beautiful and untouched. Many pieces of scrap found, but, no luck with any coins yet.

I am very interested in good beach detecting sites in this area.

Thanks!

Drdata

Thank you for the advice!

We will start doing more research. We have been up north to the 1715 wreck areas. Not much luck yet.

Thanks Again!

Welcome to you and your son from Australia.

Local historical societies always have tons of good information. And nice people. Just don't ever mention that you are looking for treasure. History is what you are looking for. As you read about it, silently note areas that may be advantageous to search.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I used to live in Florida, near Sarasota. On the beaches there one could find treasure, at least it was to me. Fossils. Bones and teeth from mammoths, three-toed horses, bison, bats, raccoons, so many more mammals, and the ever-present shark teeth. I did find a nice megalodon tooth before I moved to Oregon. Good luck.
