Hello harleyd3  Welcome from NT Australia , there are several manufacturers ( garrett , minelab , whites , tesoro and others ) who produce stellar machines in that price range which have good discimination and VDI screens , this helps sort the rubbish , but the veterans here will say DIG every contact some coins and small gold sometimes show as pulltabs etc . What brand name you choose depends on personal choice and suitability , check out field tests at detector manufacturers web sites as well as on this forum then you may have an idea on what suits your needs , goodluck . cheers Mick

Welcome from NM.

Try out something like a Garrett ACE 25o or the like.

You won't be tying up a ton of money and still have enough for a Formidable Detector later.

If you like it , it will always make a Kick Butt Back up or Loner.

What type of MD hunting are you thinking about?
