Go Up Go Down

I'm new to detecting, and am hoping to find a THer here in Utah that's willing to help me get off on the right foot.  I'm 62 and badly out of shape. I am hoping this hobby will give me some badly needed exercise.

Hey Bomber.  No I don't have any manuals or CD's or anything.  I bought the DFX about 8 years ago, the got pretty ill for a while. In this time I've lost everything but the detector itself.

Hello, tazlyon......yeah, this hobby can really get you in shape (fortunately, you can also start out fairly easy and work up to the really strenous stuff....but no matter how you cut it, there will be lots of deep knee bends, and a fair amount of walking).

I would love to hunt around all of the lakes here in northern Utah, but I'm afraid that as soon as I try I'm gonna' drop my DFX in the water.  And then I have nothing.  I've thought about looking into a waterproof unit, but just can't afford or justify it yet.  I've been kinda' watching for a White's "waterproof" unit, but so far no luck. They're just too expensive for me right now.  Social Security Disability doesn't pay a whole lot. LOL.
Thanks Guys for all the input.

I drank out of the bottles too Gimp.  And now those bottles are worth money. (Geez, that dates us a bit doesn't it). Just think if we had saved all them bottles, comics, change etc. I have family that owns property at Bear Lake, and we gather about 4 times per summer up there for 3 or 4 days at a time. That's gonna' be my first beach hunting as soon as the weather breaks. But i'm still worried about ruining my DFX. I can't imagine Lagoon letting anyone hunt their property, but it can't hurt to ask. Will our machines work at all around, or in the shallow water of the Great Salt Lake?
Well guys, thanks for all the input. And happy hunting.
Marty

taz,the great salt lake would be hard on any machine!!if it was me,i would put a big clear garbage bag over my detector tape the end closed and go check the old saltaire site!!a lot of history sitting in the sand there..as for lagoon i don"t think they"d mind you checking out the parking lots, enough acreage to keep a guy busy for months.esspecially if your hauling out trash! gimp55
