Hi Y’all,

Looking forward to reading about the found treasures. Metal detecting is new for me. I’ve purchased a couple of Bounty Hunter Detectors to get things started for me and my son. Hardest part is finding where to explore.

Howdy, digndirt, and welcome from a Texan living in exile in Arizona.

It is definitely a bummer that Texas State Parks forbid metal detectors.   And an even bigger bummer that a lot of city either forbid metal detectors in their parks or restrict them to specific parks like San Antonio does.   To know which is which, you need to check the ordinance for each town individually.   Of  course, the best solution is to hunt private property, with permission of course, but that requires building a network and risking rejection by someone saying "No" when you ask for permission.  It helps if the person your asking hasn't had his/her mind filled with negatives by watching too much tv or by following after inconsiderate detectorists who don't follow the code of ethics.

Fortunately for you, we do have several members in the Dallas area.  AND there are a couple of really good metal detecting clubs up there.  I'd recommend checking them out sooner rather than later...
