well Hello,I will start by saying thanks for having a place where i can educate myself in something i have long hoped to do.I was given an old Heathkit GD-1290.It has nothing with it.no manual, instructions and no battery pack.I would hope that perhaps even though it is as old as i am that perhaps it even works and will be a good start for me.

Mapleman,  an old detector that works is better than no detector at all.   But unless you have some technical knowledge, I'd plan on upgrading soon... (you can get hooked very easily).   And the person who built yours might have been very good.

In the meantime you might find these urls helpful:

(don't know what it will cost, but it may be reasonable)

Anyway, we're glad to have you here.  Hope to hear from you, especially once you get the GD-1290 out in the field.

Hi mapleman231   Hello

No matter if it's an old or recent metal detector, the principal is to "satisfy his passion and I think that's what most people on that site. I welcome you among us. Best good wishes for your future surveys.
