Thanks halfdollar. Take heed, I'll be looking for you next time I get my MXT out.  Grin
Just kidding, thanks for the welcome. Hmmmmm. Come to think of it, Outside (East) of Jackson, I think the name of the town is Mindenhall (?) A house burned down (way out in the country,) it was owned by my brother-in-laws grandparents. It burned in about 1950. He and I spent a couple of hours searching through the ashes in 1958 looking for a 1 pound coffee can full of silver dollars. We only found 1 of them and that was half melted. I wonder if it's ever been searched with a metal detector?

Oh, I doubt that Mudflap. I never searched out there again. I just had the advantage of having been born in Bradenton and knew where oldest beaches were. Of course, times have changed now. The AnnaMaria city pier was built in 1920, so there's a lot of history there. I remember a story about how John Fogarty sailed his sloop across AnnaMaria island back around 1850 I think. Never wanted to live there after reading that. Grin

Thanks Eagle. Have a place in Venice. A lot of the local beaches have the sand pumped in. I've got to do more research. Been doing better finding sharks teeth down at Sharkys!!! Grin

No, but it wouldn't surprise me if I did. A lot of areas along the beachs had sand pumped in to fill swampy areas, or small ponds etc. There was a major land rush in FL in the early 1920s and land changed hands many times before an owner ever saw it. A lot of it was nothing but swamps and palmettos. Then there were the "shell pits" that were dug with drag-lines for oyster shells for building and paving. Those suckers were DEEP! Of course, they had to be filled before anything was built there. Sure did get the gators mad. Grin

Sorta like Black Ice without the Ice.

Back in the late 60s, we use to go to the inlet (in Sarasota) coming in from LongBoat Pass and where the small waves break on the sand, we would fill a gallon bucket with sharks teeth. I imagine by now, it's probably all concrete bulkheads. Cry

Also, on the bay side of AnnaMaria, at a certain time of year, the "lettered olives" (snails) would come out of the water to lay their eggs in the sand. Literally hundreds of them at times. I was lucky enough once to find a golden colored one. A shell shop told me it was 1 in a 1,000. I got $5.00 for that one. Quite a bit considering that the common ones retailed for 5 cents ea.

I believe that was A1A. Not sure, but I think the As were stuck on it when they put interstate 1 in.
