FISHER GOLD BUG2 MINELAB ETRAC GP3500 EXCALIBUR, EXPLORER 2  WHITES GMT
« on: August 15, 2011, 04:58:42 pm »
Go Up Go Down

Hi I have been detecting for about 18yrs and love it. I do the lot, chase gold, detect beaches, parks and go in the water. I have had a lot of detectors over the years, at present I have Etrac, Explorer2 Excalibur, Whites GMT Fisher Gold Bug 2 GP3500 and an old Garrett Deepseeker  which at present is a no goer. I was recently given the Garrett and have been trying to get it working. The Battery tray was in a bad way and I have resoldered all new 9 volt battery clips to it and it is sending the right power through the contacts but the machine still wont work. The guage on the machine shows the current is going through when using the battery test in both channels ! and 2. I have put a multi meter across the back of the On Off switch and the current is going through okay. The printed circuit doesnt  have any obvious burn marks.  well I hope someone is able to help me  thanks Neilo

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

The battery test is working fine on both channels 1 and 2. There is no audio, no power going through there at all. I have checked the headphone plug and speaker to see if they are faulty but they are okay. The on off switch is operating properly. Home fire you said you had the schematics, my problem will be trying to make sense of them! I do appreciate any help I can get. The battery tray is broken (chewed by a dog) and needs replacing, I have done a temporary fix but it wont last long the way it is. I know the old detector is of no great value, and the question is, is it worth spending money on? Or am I better off selling it for spare parts? bye for now Neilo

Yes it's worth the time and money.    Contact Garrett!   They still have those battery trays.
