Go Up Go Down

After visiting Cuba 11 times I am very interested in its history and stories of Spanish gold lost around its shores for centuries. I have taken my underwater detector there this year for the first time. I Found several fairly modern coins some American, mostly as you would expect Cuban. Among the other finds were a silver ring and a engraved gold and white gold or platinum wedding ring. Busy trying to trace owner from the engraving, I will keep you informed. Cuba is a relatively up-tapped source of underwater and land detecting as it is a military run country and very protective of its history and therefore its artifacts. This is why I took a detector which is small and can be carried in my luggage. I had no problems with the Cuban authorities but did get a lot of interest from the Cuban people who had not seen a detector before.

Welcome from New Mexico!
{alt}

What was the Economy like down there?

Last I heard, they pay peanuts under the local economy and everyone is after $'s and any other currency.

The beaches would be occupied by people from the East or other then the USA.

The Underground Economy is ten times as strong as the local or Official economy.

Being stubborn and without the USSR, they will collapse and find a fold.

Just going to take time.

Back in the Cold War days, they got used by the Russians and left in the wind.

I feel sorry for them.

We have a pile of Cubans in Florida and other States.

Last I heard We even have a Cuban Air Force that patrols the waters off the coast of Florida looking for Folks seeking Refuge.

If caught in the water they get sent back.

If they make land, they get asylum.

The Economy is pretty poor, due mainly to the US embargo. America chooses not to associate with Cuba but this does not mean other countries do. Presently China are in there developing huge Nickel plants and many countries receive medical assistance from thousands of highly trained doctors. Over 52,000 heath workers to date have given their services to 92 countries around the World. Cuban Health professionals are working in the most remote areas of 18 third World Countries. The Cubans immigrants living in Florida are the people who choose not to participate in the revolution to rid the country from corruption led by the puppet Batista.
However having said all this in reply.. This is a site for metal detecting enthusiasts and I would like, like minded people to post their interesting stories on treasure hunting not polital comment

Mate, That was not a Political Comment.

That was a inquiry of the Status down on the island.

Your not the only one that would like to detect down there. Great

Possibly got off on the wrong foot! Lost in translation perhaps!. I was in Miami and Key West in June (son lives in Orlando)and met a lot of Ex-Cubans who have nothing good to say about the Island today.Check out 'Alpha 66'. still active today.I promise that's my last word on political debate.

I notice you have a few thousand posts, are you on the THunting team ? I don,t actually know how to post a message yet I think my first one was by trial and error! all I am doing is replying to your message. can you assist with a few pointers.
Are all these replies open for view?
I have tried to add a Jpg of the coins and rings I found while snorkelling hope it was successful.

I have heard metaldetecting is not allowed in Cuba and you could risk having your gear taken away,,Anyone else heard this?
