Garret ATF Gold

Go Up Go Down

Greetings all. Yup, Here's yet another Newbie. It's been a many of years since I was a part of an online community board such as this, so please bear along with me while I try & retrain this old memory of mine.

I just recently bought a Garret AT Gold Unit, (Haven't been able to get out & test it yet) But I look forward to hopefully countless hrs of seeking out items that have been long lost & forgotten about. (I Just love History)

Anyways, I've got to try & obtain some skills fairly quickly as a friend of mine has invited me to join him next month over in the Philippines just to have a little fun in the sun & enjoy some sandy beaches.

I look forward to doing my best to try & learn from those of you who have been b4 where I now am entering.

Happy Huntin

Yeah thats what I heard. Now if I can only learn & understand how to use this thing, LOL.

I took it outside for the first time today to play with it in my yard & it drove me nutz. Had it set on All metals, (Auto Discrim, & Ground Balance) & I kept coming across old nails, Nuts, Bolts, & old pop cans 4" - 10" below the surface, in an area that nothing that I knew of was ever built or used b4.  I've got to figure out how to set it for only things like coins & jewelry or gold & silver. Not junk like that, LOL (In time I guess) Tongue

Welcome to the forum THD.
Yes most people go through a period of time thinking why swing some machine not really knowing why the machine is making a lot of noise.  However part of the fun is learning what one given machine can locate.  There are a lot of people who go after coins and jewelry here to get some tips from.
Good Luck

If you want the Gold, Dig it all.   If you Discrim out stuff like Iron and Pull tabs your never going to be finding Gold.

I was wondering about that. For some reason I am thinking that with the AT Gold, its supposed to be able to separate gold from other types of metals. (I could be wrong)

Excellent tip homefire.
Reminds me of a good prospector has to dig it all as well with no discrim unless sorting individual rocks away from the ground.  Even then using a discrim is not a good idea.

What I read says gold rings ID the same as Pull tabs just like most other detectors would.

Hello
All it take is someone going behind you that starts to pick up gold and you will kick yourself for not digging it all.
It is hard to carry a second metal detector on you without interference  Detecting as well to help determine any readings.
Anyone use the Garret AT Gold unit out prospecting?  If so how do you use the machine?

Hello
By the way the Philippines could have a lot of gold and silver because of WWII.

Hello
It appears that the AT Gold machine has a Frequency of 18 kHZ.  Some gold hunters will use other frequencies still you should not have any problems finding gold with no discrim. use.
