There are so many different boards to use which one is best for a newcomer?

Hi, Stashew.   Welcome to THunting.com

If you are talking about websites as a whole, THunting.com is the only answer  Smiley.
If you are talking about which of the different boards on THIS website is the best, that depends a whole lot on what your interests are.   Assuming that you are not only new to THunting.com but also new to metal detecting, here is what I suggest:
     1) Check the Beginners board everyday.   That will also be the best place to post most of your questions unless you've found a more appropriate board.
     2) Check the Today's finds board everyday----helps keep your enthusiasm up when you're not quite satisfied with how you are doing.
     3) Scan the other boards at least once every week or two.   If you find one that really interests you, say for instance Prospecting, add it to you list of boards to check every day or two.

My personal way of dealing with thee posts is I start with all the new user introductions (partly because I moderate it).   Then I go to the beginners board and go through all the new posts there.   Then, on the list of unread posts, I mark as read anything I know from past experience I probably won't be too interested in (for me that includes most of the Tech Talk threads).   Then I start at with the oldest unread post and just work my way through to the top.
For  a brand new member, that's a too big of chunk, so start with the boards that interest you...and try to get current on those.  Don't worry about going too far back unless the thread subject looks like it would really interest you.

BA

Wow BA, that was really nice of you to reply. If most of the other people on these boards are like you I think I am going to like this.

I understand what you are telling me and it makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately when I hit the arrow to see what boards there are the list disappears pretty quickly...it must be the way I am doing it. I will have to ask my sons how to fix it.

I can see where I will be spending a lot of my spare time!

Good picture......as for finding the boards, try this:

Instead of using the dropdown at the top of the page that says "Boards" and has an arrow pointing down, click on the label next to it that says "Home".   That will bring up a page that shows pictures of recent finds of our members.  Below that will be a section called "Recent Topics".   Then below that, you will see a gray bar that says "Our Community"......tht corresponds to the first selection if you you are using the Boards drop down list.   Each gray bar represents one of the choses in the drop-down menu you were looking at before.

The nice thing about using the method I recommend is that breaks down each of the boards into it's major subdivisions and gives you a quick discription of what the board or sub-board discusses.   Then to the right, it will let you know who last posted to that board or sub-board, and when.

That "disappearing list" is because the board reacts to your mouse being hovered over the button. The feature is called mouseover and brings up a pull down menu. You can move your mouse down the menu and select what you want.

Welcome aboard from Australia. You'll really like it here.

Thanks Seldom. I have a close friend that lives in Southlake. Are you close to there?

Australia! The Great Barrier Reef is on my 'bucket list'. Hope to see it someday.

Thanks for the direction on the mouseover.
