Hello all, I was hunting around the internet looking for info on the White's Classic III and came upon your site. Out here in Brooklyn NY I only geta chance to hit the beach on the weekend. Last week I found a gold pinkie ring. First time finding gold. Now my wife wants to get me a new detector, and I told her I wanted one that could be used in the water. Rereading the manual I read The classic III is waterproof. Can the coil be used in the surf?

Hello frazdad and  Welcome to the Forum . The Whites Classic III metal control box housing is not waterproof but the search coil can be submersed in water to just a foot below the hand grip not the arm cuff !!! . Do not let water run up the coil wire if you carry the detector upside down on your shoulder .
Hopefully the search coil is in good condition with no puncture holes or cuts .
If you sweep the coil in or near salt water , you may have to turn the sensitivity down if it gives you erratic noise or chatter . Fresh water searching it should be more stable .
Thank-You for joining our forum and hope you post your progress .

HH.............Eugene
