Welcome aboard!  I gather from your post title that you are using a DFX.  Been using it long?

Enjoy the forum.

Hi I am new also. I live in N. Louisiana and have not got to try out my DFX yet. My father gave this to me after his stroke. He only used it a few times so it is like brand new. I saw on Gold Fever the other day where Kevin was telling the people to run there coil wire straight down the pole to the coil. Is this the right thing to do? He said that it shoots threw the wrap coil wire. It made a little sense, but I would like to know what others have to say about shortening the wire.  Rider

Welcome Greenleafbay and Sam240.   If you have the patience to keep going out even if your first few hunts aren't super rewarding, you'll really come to love the hobby.   And if you're the curious type, you'll really like this group of people.   As for wrapping the wire around the shaft versus shortening, the primary reason for doing either is to keep the wire stable and to keep it from producing false signals when it swings loosely and interferes with the signal generated by the coil.   Wrapping is a) quicker and b) more easily reversible if you need to change the shaft length.

 Detecting
Thanks for the Welcome BitburgAggie_7377.

I was wondering why Whites did not make the cable shorter. I believe a quick fix is using a piece of insulation used on A/C pipe. it would hold everything in place and help protect the signal.

I wonder why when I added the smiley I lost all my text?
oh well now it is back.
