My husband and I will be in Galveston in Jan 2011. We would like to find a place were I could treasure hunt and also sea shell hunt and also a nice hotel right on the beach. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Debbie and Edward

Hey Debbie and Edward Welcome from Galveston.

We got 32 miles of beach and all but a few miles at the state park are open to hunting.
Don't know how much you want to spend on a hotel as they go from 50 to 300 a night. Let me know and I will send you some address's and phone numbers

Seldom

Thanks Seldom. We would like a hotel were you can just walk out onto the beach for the most part and keeping it under 100 would be nice .I am disabled so have to have elevator if on a different level,  But also the best place on the island for the sea combing and treasure hunting. He is still learning to use his detector and I am not sure if it can be used in the water. I will ask him. Thanks so much Seldom. Debbie

Edward will be in classes Jan 5,6 and 7 till about noon in Baytown, I gather they don't have any beaches.. then we will travel on down to Galveston to stay a few more days. We have had a lot of luck sea combing at Aransas Pass before.. found a tulip sea shell on our last visit, but he has never detected before with his new one yet. Debbie

Welcome from New Mexico.    Not much help in Texas but hope you find what you need.

A Real or two would be cool.

Here is a link of hotels recommended by the COC.
The LaQuinta  at 1402 seawall will put you close to east beach which is good for beach combing and detecting Plus its close to the Strand art district and lots of good places to eat around there.

Seldom, thank you for the information about that hotel. I also went out and looked to see the name of his metal detector, it is a Whites MXT 300. Debbie

Hello, Lawdog.   Welcome to THunting.com.

Seldom is definitely our resident Galveston expert, so it's great to see that the two of you have connected.  The food in the area Seldom is talking about is great!  (hate to say it, but I probably spend too much time eating when I'm on vacation).   There is a lot of history on that little island, so if the weather doesn't cooperate for spending time on the beach, there will still be plenty to keep you occupied.
