I had this on a shelf and thought it might get cleared up as to what this lamp belonged to........The story of its finding is like this..
Some time ago the local parks people in another town nearby decided to dredge a small river that had silted up.
I went there after they had done so and found these mountains of mud, thought this might be my luky day, but I could not get near this stuff as it had everything in it signals everywhere, so I just walked around it and saw the glint of brass picked it out and thought at first, "what will happen if I "RUB IT" NOTHING came the reply.
Anyway it is made in Chigago and has a date 1901..Any of you guys States side shine a light on this scuse the pun........HH...Johnnn

It is actually a carbide "hand lamp" (or torch on your side of the pond)

Carbide, when wet, emits a gas which is ignited in the reflector assembly and burns with a bright light.

the more I LOOK at that thing, the more I think it is a different model, or the one you found was "taken apart" and reassembled by some kid playing around or something... Just doesn't look "right"..
Almost as if it was assembled out of the parts of one of the ones I linked...
 Sad

Hi Jim,
May all your mud be un-contaminated, I have no doubt that there were many items of interest in my lot but it was imposible to detect it, would have been better with a sieve .......HH...Johnnn
