Howdy; nice find. Just for the record though this is commonly referred to as an oxen shoe, however, when ranchers would drive their herds to market they would use these shoes for their bulls as they were so heavy that if they did not shoe them they would not make it to market as they would come up lame. Generally speaking an oxen is a beast of burden used for carrying a load and they are usually neutered.

Yep Thats an Oxen shoe got several over the years from 1812 sites the miltary contractors used these beasts to haul heavy loads such as cannon and munitions.

Yep Oxen shoe it is.  I have dug up a lot of these following the old pioneer trails to California and Oregon.  It shore did break up the monotony as they made my detector ring like a bell.  I always thought "at last an old pistol" but nope just another old ox shoe.  Why did I keep plugging along...because I had a friend that found a $10 California Territorial Gold Coin that's why ha.
