Here's something I ran across today that may spark some interest .  Its new to me but already has some Tech-Builders from around the world on You-tube trying to program basic functions for Pulse Induction Metal Detector Prototypes .

I just learned of this today , but some of you may already be familiar with this Arduino Programming "Open Source" [supposedly free] .  The accent of the builder sounds Australian,  anyway here is the link of part 1 :

Please feel free to comment , and again I have not read the open source webpage yet . Another Thunting.com member has posted on Arduino Programing but I did not see the Pulse Induction information ? Comments are Welcome !!

Best Regards......................Eugene

Probably not too difficult to learn .  Arduino sounds a little bit Italian too me !!

I've been aware of this for some time now and believe that the Arduino is too slow to be very sophisticated as both a controller and as target analysis. Using a PIC in the 32 series would be better.

Homefire, the Arduino is programmed in BASIC. Use all capitals for computer languages. FORTRAN, PASCAL, etc.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Hello Everyone .
I enjoy posting what Hobby builders are trying to do around the world . Even the basic simple stuff .

To me its very exciting to see a guy in Australia attempting to run a pulse induction machine using a free source like "Arduino" , it's really great he put it on You-Tube for everyone to see , another plus in my book ........Its a starting point that fuels discussions .

If we do not post this kind of stuff , nothing will be seen at all .

Comments and U-Tube video clips of Metal Detector DIY software demonstrations is welcome here .

Best Regards.................Eugene

Another board to use is the Basic stamp. It is an interpretive language called Parallax PBASIC. The Basic Stamp Homework USB board is just as slow as the Arduino  board though. PICs can use PICBASIC, but again all BASIC OS's are slow. A  PIC running on assembly language is pretty fast. However, PIC's have an internal limitation. The external or internal clock is not the instruction speed execution. You have to divide that by 4. Still a 20 MHz clock can pump out instructions at 5 MIPS (200 nanoseconds each). A 32MHZ chip can belt out 8 MIPS. As fast as an old top of the line 8086. Grin Grin Grin Shocked

Dusty Carl

I'd like to add that the BASIC Stamp or the Arduino Atmega can be used to generate the drive and timing pulses for a PI detector with no problem. Use analog circuits to do the processing and you got yourself a detector with very little drift.

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.
