Does anyone know of a DIY pulse detector with ground balance?

Thanks

One of the characteristics of the Pulse Induction design is the fact that it is unaffected by ground mineralization. I don't think there's a design out there with GB because it just isn't necessary.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

You are ABSOLUTELY Correct! :Smiley PI & GB is like Oil & Water....It just doesn't mix! Grin

That's why a PI can attain such incredible depths on small objects....unaffected by ground mineral......but! the trade off is the limits on discrimination with these type of machines. Pulse Induction is a different critter from the old TR's or GEB machines....and so is the type of discrimination that is used...WHEN it is used!

There is NO discrim on a PI detector.

All you can do is Eliminate targets.

When you Eliminate targets you loose the others that fall behind the sample.

I believe that by very definition what you are describing is is fact Discrimination. Linear discrimination. That is the type that eliminates any target that falls electronically below your discrimination setting. We're all so used to the digital notch type discrimination that has taken over the market since White's first introduced it in 1987 on their Eagle I that we tend to forget how it used to be! There was a time when you were THRILLED just to have a machine that had ANY type of discrimination on it....even an old TR discriminator! Anything to give that edge...so you didn't have to dig so much junk. Things have really came a long way since metal detectors and digital technology married up!

AND....

Actually...White's Electronics made a PI or two with some discrimination on it...but as I stated it was very limited...not the same as the discrimination on a GEB machine. We could only wish! And better yet...Wouldn't VDI like we've came to know and love...be nice on a PI! Bummer.  Cry  They need to come up with a GOOD PI / GEB hybrid! Great Now! Wouldn't that would be interesting......

ram,

GPV...? Ground Penetrating Video? If that's what you're talking about, that would be AWESOME on a handheld detector!!! Great I remember reading this article in one of the Treasure magazines about 15 years ago that talked about this new break through technology using a 386 CPU that would allow the user to SEE the ACTUAL target in the ground on the detectors video screen! It showed pictures and everything! I was BLOWN AWAY! Shocked They said that it was being released later that year with an expected cost of around $1500 dollars! I was ready to go out and get me a dealership for this machine! Pray I was SO excited...I was beside myself! I was telling everyone about it...and then...after reading this 4 page article several times through...I happened to catch the last couple of lines at the bottom of the page that read...." I do hope everyone realizes that this is our April 1st issue!"
My DREAMS were CRUSHED!!! The Bums! That was a good one.....I bit hook, line AND sinker!  Violent Grin
