Hi, I plan to drive through Canada to detect for nuggets in Alaska. If I do find some gold in Alaska and go home through Canada, will I be taxes by Canada for the gold I find in Alaska? I was told I would but that doesn't sound right.
Thanks, bullseye

Thanks homefire, I did give that a thought but then I would be taking a slim chance of it not making it home. If I was to find a nice gold nugget, I would sure hate to turn it loose but if Canada does tax my Alaska find, I sure won't take it through Canada. Nice thing about US postal. Under 40 lbs, if it fits it ships. I just have to stop detecting at 40 lbs if that's the limit. Just a joke!!!!!!!!!

Bullseye, drill a small hole in it and put it on your key ring then put the left over dust in a small plastic bag and put it in your pocket

no one would ever believe it was a real gold nugget on ya key ring Shocked

I don't think you have to pay anything if your just transporting thru Canada. You may need to declare it as personal property when you enter Canada and make sure you have it when you leave they will get upset if you sell it there. Canada is not hard on mineral specimens which gold is but will lock your butt up over fossils.

For some reason I recall reading about a tax on gold removed from British Columbia, but that is all I can remember. Just be sure and declare it when entering Canada, or just tuck it away really good. It isn't like it creates a traceable odor. A drug dog isn't going to sniff out your gold  Grin

However if anyone finds a link on the internet referring to this I would like to see it posted under the rules and regs topic also.

Cheers

Sean
