Go Up Go Down

I just got back from a panning trip with jjacobs, and found nothing but tiny flecks. It was nice to finally see gold in the bottom of my pan though! I have a full bucket of classifieds to work tomorrow.... Maybe I'll find more? I'll let you all know tomorrow. I got the fever BAD now!

What part of Ory-gun were you prospecting.  It seems that most of the gold found in the state so far is in a band going from southwest (Brookings) to the northeast (Sumpter & beyond) which means this old coot has to travel from home base on the northwest coast.

It was my first time seeing color in my pan. I took some home with me and panned it out. I've gotten through them top part, and so far I have found a piece of either platinum or lead. I'm gonna test it later once I'm done with the bucket I took home.

Yeah I'll let you guys know when I'm done panning the little bit of the mountains I brought with me. You can put a prospector in the city, but he'll just bring the mountain to himself.... lolz

I live in Portland, but I went down to the Molalla, and down to N. Santiam, and to Quartzville creek. None of them produce too much with a pan. I want a sluice, and I'm gonna build myself a small dredge too. I want to head over to Eastern Oregon, but gas is so expensive. I have a gas guggler too.

Yeh I know what you mean I made trip over to John Day over the Mothers Day weekend and when I gased up at Mt. Vernon the 4.3L V6 in my "94" S-10 had sucked up $65.00 worth of Obumer gas.  I was going to do some panning when I was over there but everything was running to high and fast plus it rained on & off the whole time.

I joined the NWMPC here about a month ago and they have some claims down in the areas you mentioned.  Just an old coots curiousity but what put you on to those particular spots?

My silly girlfriend looking it up online. I think if you can see it online then it is probably panned out. Especially since they were all right by the road. I'm pretty new to this. How do you research an area to work?

Best thing to do is to look were gold has been found.

The time consuming part is looking for a place that's still open and not under claim or private properties.

Wise  First thing is to get a good map, I have one from these folks /

/
(12.95 + p) on order.  I also have the Oregon Atlas & Gazetteer published by DeLorme which divides the state
up over 70 pages.  I also have Delos Toole's book "Where to Find Gold in Oregon" it has a lot of very good info in it.

As to what Homefire said about area's not under claim I have the product sold by these folks
/ goldmapsonline.com/oregon-gold-map.html /(14.95 download).  This is Mine Cache, an
application that runs with Google Earth, It shows active and abandoned claims.  If you click
on an active claim bow it gives you info on the claim including the name & address of the
claim holder.  If you click on an abandoned claim box it gives you info on the claim but not who owned it.

And last but not least join and stay tuned in to this forum and others.  Go through the archives and read
the threads your state of interest and also the DIY threads, there's a ton of info to be found there.

Take care out there,
Gramps

Mine Cashe is good for sure (I have it here) , you can use the info in LR2000 to find the records and who and when.

Mine Cashe uses the same Data Bases that GeoComm used.  Sad Sad Geo Comm went tits up.

You will find all this info in Our Prospectors Talk Boards.
