Where can I get the ribbed rubber mat locally. I tried Wal-mart, home Depot and ace hardware. I know I can order it but if I can keep from paying shipping I would be happier.

Pioneer Mining Supply in Auburn, on Main St., east of their last location in the building with the gold panner on it.

I just got a Blue Bowl, and matting from Heather.

Thanks for the info geodesic9. Now for a newbee question. Would it hurt to polish an aluminum sluice box. I pick one up for a few buck from a guy in Auburn. It is a Keene but it has years of use on it. I was thinking about polishing it up but I don't want to cause it to float gold flakes away.

Polish.

Don't bother.

Just clean up the out side replace any nuts and bolts that it needs.

Even the Expanded metal will clean it's self with use.     Cool

I agree with Homefire. Remember you will be putting it in a stream and tossing dirt in it Cheesy

If you still want to clean off the oxidation and such I would recommend getting some silicon oxide sandpaper about 240 or 320 grit (aka wet or dry). Keep the surface you are working wet and lightly sand in one direction. Use a sanding block if you have one or wrap the paper around a block of wood so the surface stays flat. Don't use paste rouge or liquid cleaners as sometimes they have chemicals that could float your gold.
