I have done some google searching looking for patented and unpatened gold mining claims.  I have never made a claim or filed for a claim.  Is it worth exploring some of the for sale listings?  Does anyone have a site they would recommend?   Why are they for sale?  With gold prices where they are why are they not working them if the have a decent assay report?
Any input would be great...

Why are they for sale?

Huh?

Not worth a hoot!

Not There's to sell??

Unable to work them?

Beware!

A lot of shisters out there these days dealing with this stuff.

Don't even think about buying a claim until you've put your boots on the ground and found color.

Check all documentation at the BLM office for completeness and other issues.

Those are some good questions. Gold mining claims have no requirement to be proven claims. I can stake one out on speculation and it would be issued just because I paid the filing fee.

Just study up on gold and where it can be found so you can lay your own claims one day.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Matt,  been there, done that.
You would be better off joining GPAA or a similar club that has access to claims----at least until you have enough experience to judge a claim for yourself.

I have been looking into a few places that have expired claims or known placers etc.   It seems to me that the GPAA claims would just be over worked...  I have looked at a couple of the local clubs but they seem to not be very well put together.  I guess I will just start somewhere and join the GPAA.

I know the GPAA has claims in Idaho, Nevada, and Arizona..  I guess I only get the info of where the claims are in order to check them out?

If you join the GPAA you get a book that has maps to all claims.

GPAA regularly acquires access to additional claims.  I believe they have added at least 6 to 10 new claims in Arizona alone this year.  (They also occasionally have claims dropped).
Once you've being working the existing claims for a while and have learned the trade, THEN you might want to reconsider getting your own claim---IF you know you're going to put the kind of work into it make it worth your while.  Even then you're going to do best by picking up a claim close to existing claims that are known to be producers.   This is an investment like any other.   The more you know the better and you really want to check the claim before you put your money down.

OK...  I joined the GPAA.  I guess I just have to hang out and wait for the claim book to come before I can do any research or visit any of their claims.  Hopefully they have something that isn't too far away.

Are these claims usually packed with people?
