ejpete, unless you're really serious about having a claim of your own, your best bet is to join GPAA or a similar group.

GPAA stands for gold prospectors association of America. It's a great group. When you join it you get a pile of goodies and a mining guide showing places across America you can go prospecting as a member. If you are at all interested in prospecting I say join. Check it out at

Lots of work in obtaining a claim.

Cost for the paper work alone is up to over $150 a year now.

There are people that can do the work for you out there but it going to cost you a few thousand for there efforts.

You may be better off Joining these folks.

Good people, Lots of claims to hit and some perks to boot!

Look for local clubs too. I don't know your location, but sometimes local clubs are cheaper than the GPAA.
