Go Up Go Down

It is finally dry enough to do some dry washing. We didn't find much gold, but got a chance to run about 20 5 gallon buckets of 1/4 screened material through the new dry washer my prospecting buddy built.  We had a lot of discussion about the best place  to pull material from.  The claim we are working has a hill in the middle (about 300' tall).  We mostly pulled material from the base of the hill.  Would  it make sense to dig near the top.  All the places we tried on the bottom produced about the same amount per bucket.  Here is a pic of the homemade dry washer.  It seems to work very good, it's fast and seem to do good because most of the gold recovered was very fine.

Cool looking machine there.

Common sense says to stay at the bottom of the hill butt hell, You just never now until you try it.

Maybe do a few sample pans from up there?

Examine your hillside to see if there are any catch basins along the slope where gold might get trapped as the sand and loam travel from the source to the base. If you collect samples from there and don't pan out your aggregate on the spot, mark your buckets so you know where each came from. As you get closer to the top, you might find that there becomes a marked change to no gold at all. That means somewhere between the previous sample and the one with no gold resides the source of the gold and that area might just be worth a prospect of another kind.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I would guess about 5 grains, not much.  Most of it was small, so I'm pretty sure its not the machine, but rather what we were putting in it.

Here is my decrepit old thing.

Still works OK but the cloth needs replacing.

It's so thin you can see through it. Ha!

I only paid $40.00 at the flea market for it. Motor and all.

The working parts are all good but the frame is rotted.

I may try to do some what you did with yours to it.

Thats a good idea I hadn't thought of using a leaf blower, I see those at yard sales all the time cheap.

Sounds like a deal to me, I haven't dry washed but a couple of times but would have jumped on that deal.

I heard a story last year about a guy dry washing around the Rio Grand finding gem grade garnets. All one have any input.
