I found my first flake of gold today. Super exciting. Until now, gold has been a theory, and everything I know based on reading or teaching -- but gold itself teaches well. Having seen it up close I no longer doubt that I can shake my pan to and fro and it still sticks to the bottom of the pan. it really is that heavy. And the color in the sunlight, unmistakable.
A word to all those panning, especially the newbies -- do your research well, learn to watch the lay of the land and water, and stay hopeful and observant. You'll find your gold.
heh...it feels funny to post this online. In the days of old, I'd be in a saloon somewhere, keeping to myself over a bottle of whiskey, biding my time until I can buy supplies and sneak back to my claim.
