i always like a surprise in the pan " rubys are red also "
a lost ruby mine would be a nice find !!!
On the dredges , some knowlage of the screens is a good idea , they also tossed away some of the bigger bits.

I too found garnets with a pink/purple caste to them.....and found them after running the concentrate from my dry washer in my blue-wheel. Most are just the size of #4 shotgun pellets....but some are #2's. I was a little disappointed with the gold....just a little flour size gold. I was out near Hemet, Calif. No secret spot (GPAA claim). This is the first time at this spot....and as its summer...I use my dry washer. I'd dug behind a 4ft diameter boulder in the middle of a dry wash....down stream from an old mine. Oh....and there were a few dozen shot pellets and a penny. I'll probably go back there....but work my way upstream.

I find garnets all the time as well. I have been told that if you are finding good size garnets, you are in the right area for gold. Never know.

Go Up Go Down

Just got back from the Black Hills in Western South Dakota. Did a few test pans to bring home and evaluate before taking the sluice back up and found tons of small garnets.  I hope I'm on to something here. They were all BB size or smaller. Haven't worked the con yet so not sure if there is any color in the bottom. Will be interesting to see what comes of these test pans. Any advice is always welcome. Curious how all the garnet's will fill in the sluice. Catch in the miners moss or around the ripple bars. Happy hunting. Smiley
