Depending when you go, you might not have  to worry about a tan for the rest of your life. I still have mine after 9 years from my last trip there. Devil Funny

Seriously though, the most important thing to remember is to go low and slow with your detector paying attention to every sound it gives off.

just got back from az a couple weeks ago...spent about 5 days pannin an wotnot...found a little over 1/4 ounce around presscott and dewey humbolt area...good luck

One thing about the northwest there's plenty of water to sluice or pan in.  Makes it a lot easier to see the gold!  Of course freezing in the weather isn't too good.

I definitely would never permanently give up the Norhwest. I can get a lot of gold up here and there are quite a few un/under-explored areas. Washington never got the attention of many of the other gold rush states, so many explored areas have even better area near that never really got a gold pan.
