 A friend bought some land in Colo. and theres an old Copper mine. I did some research anddiscovered that they had found a rich vien of Gold back in the day...

I would advise him to file a gold claim right away to ensure he has the rights to mine his own land. If there is already a claim, see if it has been maintained or if the claim has been worked. If not, he may be able to make a new claim based on abandonment. Either way, he needs to establish that he has the right to prospect and explore. Oddly enough, ownership of the land is not enough.
