Any of you had a chance to detect at a gold mine tailing piles? Where do you look for the best place to start out? Some places have nuggets and some don't. Any idea on where in western Canada and Fairbacks areas for nuggets?
Thanks

I did it again. I was trying to spell Fairbanks and slipped.
I'll try to do better next time.

Not going to find many nuggets in or around mine tailing's.

Nuggets would be more associated with Alluvial Deposits.

They are good for gold within Ore and Rock that got missed by the first folks.

Run your detector along the base of the tailing's as your first shot.

As the Tailing's erode from weather, the heaver rocks will be found along the base of the tailing's.

Any bit of luck and some may contain a bit of the good stuff.

What machine are you using?

You probly want a old mine, there could be piles of ore that havn't been processed.
Another thing there could be some float gold, Im talking about gold that broke off from the main load.
If your in a place where gold is located id say there should be some gold still around.
Get some books that will give you an idea of the type of gold that was found in the area. I find it intertesting how the old timers did it way back then, and where the rich ground was  Cool

Thanks for the reply homefire and goldnboy, What is an Alluvial deposit and how do I locate one? I will be looking for older closed gold mines. They may be hard to find or hard to get into. My wife will be useing the first F-75 and I will use the new F-75.

homefire, Where is the base of the tailings located? Also could you tell me why that would be a good spot to locate nuggets? These questions are just for me to figure out how and why I'm more interested in that area. I know you know your treasure hunting.
Thanks, bullseye

Hello Bullseye,  The alluvial deposits is where you will find the nuggets. Common theory is that it broke from the mother load way back from erosion.
Tailing's piles come from old gold dredges, they didn't allways recover all the gold. Be carefull around these piles as they aren't allways stable and can be dangerous. If you have gold tailing piles your in gold country so your in the right place to find some gold.
