Go Up Go Down

Taking the Cibola up to an area known for small to moderate amounts of gold.
Already checked restrictions  Police...all good for non motorized public prospecting.
Two of the creeks near the trail have yielded the yellow stuff to others who have panned, but I've never seen nor heard of anyone wagging a pole around there.
Am I wasting my time with the Cibola, way up where the mineral count is some of the highest in the nation?
I've already run into hot rocks that discriminate all the way to the end of my dial... not a fun discovery  Sad and that's in the relative lowlands here...LOTS of iron...but wouldn't it be good for checking pockets in streams?
Going to give it a shot...who knows, maybe I'll find something cool around the campsite  :Smiley

no clue, never been in an area with a high mineral count. The nuggets I get around here are few and far between and shaped like rings, ear rings, necklaces, pendants, and sometimes they have diamonds or gems attached to them  Cheesy

I don't know anything about the Cibola.  Let us know how it operated under those conditions when you get back.  Be sure to check some of those hot rocks, there could be a meteorite or two up there.   They have been found in the mountains, not just in the desert!  Check out the meteorite threads to find good descriptions!  Detecting

I assume the red in red granite is from iron.
Broke apart a piece that gave a strong signal, and the signal diminished with all the small chunks.
No gold, but I found a 1908 Barber quarter with a bullet hole through it!

Not typically.   The red or pink in granite is from the feldspar.
