I know this is an old topic - but I am in Southern Ontario - just east of Toronto and I would love to know more info about if any Gold has been found in and around these areas ... is it worth panning for it at all ...

I would love to see a mine in action but I do not think there are any around my area that I know of ... guess I will have to go north to find one ...

Use the search box above to the right. Enter your search terms and see what turns up. Normally, the fewer terms you use, the more accurate the returns. I'd use Ontario Gold for the terms.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Andy, for Ontario, start at this website:

If you use their search function you should find lots of information.   I know from google that they do have the kind of information you are looking for there.

Well in the last few years I've tried to find a place in Ontario where gold panning or placer mining is done..and the result is that there isn't any..Quebec and some place on the east coast do and of course BC..damn shame!~

In other words you not looking for a place you can search on your own so much as you are looking for a "pay and pan" site.   Why didn't you say so?   That does make a difference.  There is gold in Ontario and streams run through the places where the gold is, so finding gold in Ontario is definitely possible.   But "pay and pan" sites might be another story.

I am not looking for a pay to pan - I just want to go forth and find a stream to see what is there - just for fun at the moment ...

But first and for most I am just trying to find someone that has done this before that might be able to teach me a few things that lives in and around this area ... which is southern Ontario just east of Toronto.

Ok...I can't help you much with the part about finding someone up there that can show you the ropes, but as far as WHERE to find gold, you look where gold has been found before and that MDCO13 pdf file has some pretty detailed information on that as well as some pretty good maps to get you in the right part of the province.
Practical tip on finding someone who can teach you the ropes, look for local rock and gem clubs and check with local rock shops and metal detector shops.
